How to Set the Temperature in Your Relationship

To the one who holds everyone together, and rarely gets held herself.

You're the strong one. Everyone knows it.

You're the one people call when it all falls apart. The one who handles it, fixes it, carries it. The one who doesn't get to crumble, because too many people are leaning on you to stay standing.

And you're tired in a way that sleep doesn't touch.

The loneliness of being the capable one

There's a specific loneliness in always being the strong one. Everyone assumes you're fine, because you always seem fine.

So no one checks on you. No one offers to carry your half, because you've never let it show that you have one.

You hold space for everyone, and quietly wonder who holds it for you. Usually the honest answer is no one, because you never let yourself ask.

How you became her

You probably didn't choose this. You were built into it.

Maybe you were the kid who grew up too fast, the one who held things together while someone else fell apart. Maybe being needed was the only way you ever felt safe, or loved.

So "strong" became your whole identity, and asking for help started to feel like failing. That was survival once. It isn't the truth of what you're allowed to need now.

You're allowed to be held

Here's what I want you to actually hear. Being strong was never supposed to mean being alone.

You're allowed to be tired. Allowed to need things. Allowed to fall apart in someone's arms and trust they'll still be there when you're done.

Strength and softness were never opposites. The strongest women are the ones brave enough to let someone all the way in.

Why you keep ending up carrying it

Here's a harder one. Strong women often end up with men who happily let them carry everything.

You're so good at handling it that he never has to, and a certain kind of man is content to be carried. So you stay the strong one even in the one place you most wanted to set the weight down.

A man worth keeping wants to carry some of it. He's drawn to your soft side, the part you've been guarding, and he won't run from it when you finally show it.

Permission to set it down

So this is your permission to stop holding all of it, even just a little.

Let someone help. Say "I'm not okay" to one safe person. Let a good man see the tired underneath the capable, and let him step toward it.

You don't have to earn rest by collapsing first. You're allowed to be held while you're still standing.

You've spent so long being everyone's strong one. You're allowed to be someone's soft place too.

Let the right people in. The ones worth keeping have been waiting for you to stop carrying it all alone.

P.S. You already know which friend needs this, the one who holds everyone up and never lets anyone hold her. Send it to her tonight.
